What makes Italian architecture so incredible?
Italy has a diverse architecture style, which cannot be defined by period or necessarily region, due to the fact that Italy was divided into several city-states until the unification in 1861. Italy is known for its many architectural achievements, such as the arch and dome.
Some of the finest examples of Western architecture can be found in Italy. Italy has influenced the world with its beautiful museums, palaces, buildings, statues, churches, art galleries, villas, fountains, historic houses and archaeological remains.
Celebrate Italian architecture and unification (and perhaps win a prize) by creating a 3D model of your favorite example of Italian Architecture and then share it with the world.
Details:
-You will choose some type of Italian architecture (ex: Siena’s Duomo, Venice’s Rialto Bridge, Rome’s Trevi Fountain, or Villa Capra in Vincenza for examples. )
-Buildings, bridges, churches will be modeled with SketchUp’s Building Maker, a free and pretty easy 3D modeling program from Google. You use SketchUp in combination with Google Earth to give models a precise geographic location.
- Each completed piece of architecture should be uploaded to a dedicated Italian Architecture collection on the Google 3D Warehouse.
-You can participate in teams of two.

Judging
Entries will be judged on the basis of the following general criteria:

There will be prizes for two age groups: Middle School (6-8) and High School (9-12)
1st Prize : $200 Amazon Gift Card + Museo Membership
2nd Prize: $150Amazon Gift Card + Museo Membership
3rd Prize: $75 Amazon Gift Card + Museo Membership

Judging
Entries will be judged on the basis of the following general criteria:
- Accuracy: Your models' scale, location and orientation must be as true-to-life as possible.
- Photo-texturing: "Paint" your models with photographs of the actual buildings. Use photo-editing software to create textures that are devoid of trees, cars, people and other visual clutter.
- Efficiency: Make sure your town loads quickly in Google Earth by keeping your models simple.
- Detail: Create a sense of place by emphasizing things that make your town unique.
- Description: Briefly describe the architecture style, including era and region, why is this an important piece of architecture and who was the architect.
- Coverage: While quality is more important than quantity, model as much as you can to provide a compelling 3D experience for online visitors.
